women, food & god

{Jack}
I recently read the book Women, Food & God by Geneen Roth. If you have ANY issues with food, I suggest you read it. It is the most amazing, life changing book I have ever read. It helped me deal with a lot of "worth" issues I have; my habit of eating to deal with my emotions (hello Oreos to appease my mommy guilt...) and my lack of ability to be in the moment.

I am so thankful that this book came into my life when it did. I just now feel that I have a handle on parenting two kids the same age, working and being a supportive wife. It's about time I turn the focus of my life back on myself.
Geneen (whom I feel I can write about in first person after the incredible journey we took together via her book) speaks like she has walked in my exact shoes. She knows what it's like to feel like nothing you do is right, like nothing you do can make you good enough, and like dieting is the answer to all your problems. But she taught me that dieting is not the answer.
Being in the moment, paying attention to my body & acknowledging my emotions is the answer. I have changed, and hope to continue to change. I hope to be more present with the boys, my husband and my life.
I seriously recommend that anyone who has struggled with their weight read her book. My copy is highlighted, underlined & earmarked from cover to cover.

  3. I have to read that book! My typical feelings/self talk is "I'm such a loser." Nothing I do is ever good enough. Thanks for the sharing your experience. I can't wait to read it!
