Your sweet and squishy forehead, pressed firm against my lips,
A lullaby murmured to you as we rock, swaying my hips.
The whisps of your sweet baby hair, tickling my nose;
Your hands, at rest upon my chest, curled up in fists, all closed.
The weight of your existence, slumped heavy in my arms;
The world stopped existing, it's just you and all your charms.
It's time to lay you down now, your eyelashes on your cheeks,
But time stands still and babe I swear, I could hold you like this for weeks.
I lay you softly in your bed, whispering "I love you's",
Your breathing, calm and steady, comforts me as well as you.
Knowing you're my last makes this a sweeter time somehow,
each day a measured number of sweet kisses on your brow.
Not a day shall pass when I don't know how blessed I am by you;
Your love for me, so full, complete, same as I have for you.
And so my boy, my precious babe, as the years do pass us by,
I want you to know I'll miss this time and please don't worry if I cry.
