the blessings of sick days

So last night I thought the twins were feeling better...
Aside from each of them throwing up once more around bedtime, they seemed to be improving.
We made it to 3am, then all hell broke loose again.
Why is it we can go all day without throwing up?
Then night time hits and the action revs up?

This morning, though, despite my exhaustion,
I was finding myself feeling grateful for the little blessings that come from sick days.
Exploring the silver lining, if you will.

Sick days mean we don't worry about preschool. The letter Q and the number 8 can wait.
Instead we spend the mornings building Lego houses and reading books in our pajamas.

I get to skip mealtimes, filling and re-filling juice and water cups instead.

I have an excuse to sit on the couch reading magazines that have stacked up
as this busy month has flown by under the guise of being on "puke patrol".

One of the biggest bonuses of sick days though is that I go off house duty.  Blankets, toys, magazines and puke bowls everywhere... Kids strewn about watching Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood and reruns of Dora.  Their requests simplified to water or snuggles.  Both of which I am happy to oblige.

And the very best part of my boys being sick? I'm a stay-at-home mom now.  So I don't have to call in. I don't have to worry about sick days or lost pay.  I just get to be here. Taking care of my littles.  Watching, waiting and praying until they are well again.

What a blessing indeed.

Your blog always resonates with me. I was happy when you got Internet back and could blog more. :) I was wondering how long you were planning on staying in Marshall and if you will continue to homeschool the twins for K. Just curious. Blessings.
