"That is part of the beauty of all literature.
You discover that your longings are universal longings,
that you're not lonely and isolated from anyone.
You belong."
-F. Scott Fitzgerald
Helping... the boys with their weekly chores this week since the twins worked and were so tired when they got home. Between the four kids and four pets, though, we can't skip weekly chores or this place might never recover.
Chatting... with my besties Kari & Kori on Facetime while cleaning Carly's room. It was so nice to catch up with them and vent and feel heard. Sigh. So grateful for those girls.
Prepping... for homecoming getting Logan an appointment to rent a suit and executing his plans for a sign to ask Elyssa to accompany him to the dance.
Making... some homemade bread and loving all the nostalgia the family feels when we smell it baking. Sugar toast, grilled cheese, french toast, sandwiches... everything is better on homemade bread.
Dropping... Carly quick as possible Tuesday morning so I could get to my 9:00 massage appointment. Ohhhh how I needed that relaxation. An hour with my phone off to focus only on myself... it was delicious.
Seeing... the doctor (avoid reading on if blood makes you squeamish or you don't want to read the TMI that follows) to find out why one of my nipples is bleeding. Since I nursed Carly (2016-2018) my milk has never dried up. Now, in addition to being able to express milk, blood also comes out of my left nipple. So I went to the doctor to figure out why. He took a sample of the blood from my chest, and sent me to do bloodwork with the lab. Now, we wait.
Subbing... for one of my fav kindergarten teachers in the afternoon and having so much fun. I just love those kids!
Grateful... as I always am for the neighborhood friends who drive Carly to & from school for me when I work. I am also grateful for Wyatt who is always home to receive her when she gets dropped off. It's a comfort to know he'll take care of her until I'm home.
Taking... Carly to the doctor when she was having accidents when she would sneeze, which is not normal for children. Turns out she had a bladder infection (who knew!?!) so then we waited in the pharmacy for her prescription so she could get on the road to recovery. Unfortunately waiting for her meds meant I missed the senior parents meeting at the high school.
Thankful... that so many of my fellow moms of seniors were willing to help a sister out. I had three people offer to bring me the paperwork from the meeting, and then one friend (shoutout to Jill!) dropped the paperwork by the house for me! Talk about going the extra mile. Thank you!!
Escaping... from life at home for a night, driving to Wenatchee to paint pottery (I did a cute pumpkin!) with my mom and sister, and then going to dinner with her and my parents when we were done. It ended up being the best night. The best company, the best break, and the best food. It was exactly what I needed after the most stressful (and honestly heartbreaking) parenting week I have experienced. I was so grateful to hug my parents, to laugh with them and my sister, and to remember I am not alone. I have an amazing village.
Shocked... at the smoke levels in Wenatchee when I was there. They are fighting serious wildfires in multiple areas, and as we were leaving the pottery place, it was literally raining ash. It was heartbreaking and I feel so bad for my sister, the way they've been trapped inside because of it. We have had a day or two of bad air quality, but nothing like they have.
Subbing... for my friend's kindergarten class on Friday and having to do so without internet. Back in my day, this wouldn't have been an issue... but now a days we use internet for everything from the lunch menu (complete with photos) to certain curriculum to brain breaks and readaloud stories. So surviving the day without it (unable to take attendance in the app, unable to share my lunch count with the kitchen, unable to email coworkers) is a challenge!
Celebrating... the twins going to school all day on Friday. I swear that getting them to class is like performing surgery in the dark.
Parenting... our teens, on and on, without fail, despite how exhausted and emotionally depleted I am feeling. Josh and I have been married for 22 years now, and I have to tell you that despite all we have been through (moving to the literal middle of nowhere for five years; two miscarriages back-to-back; the loss of his father) we have never struggled the way we have the last year and a half. We have the same end goals for raising our kids, but the paths we believe will get us there are sometimes wildly different from one another. Finding common ground, deciding which route to take and staying on good terms with each other is a big challenge.
Watching... Wayward which was so good and Tell Them You Love Me which was so disturbing.
Reading... The Soul of An Octopus, which instantly drew me in. It is the warmest book, just fascinating and making me want to meet an octopus. Haha!
Looking... back at our kitten Molly (who now lives with my mom because she got into the habit of eating our family's clothing) after seeing my nephew Milo's new kitten Craig. He's absolutely adorable, and his name cracks me up! (Sidenote on Molly- she still eats my kids clothes if they get left at my moms house. She's obsessed with them!)
Loving... Wyatt's RC car hobby. He ordered wheels and tires for his newest car, and I just love it.
Making... a bouquet from my dahlias and roses for Logan to use to ask his girlfriend to homecoming. It took forever, and I am far from a professional, but I was impressed with my results!
Laughing... that Josh and I both took the same picture (albeit from different angles) of Logan and Hadley napping, unbeknownst to each other. There's something about our kids sleeping that just takes us instantly back to their infancy & childhood and we can't help feeling such intense love and nostalgia.
Enjoying... the Mariner's being in the playoffs. Wyatt and Josh are especially enthused, but the twins also usually end up watching the games. It's such a sweet thing that brings the family together.
Trying... to be in the moment, despite my insane stress level. This week that meant puzzling and remembering to lower my shoulders. Deep breath, mamas. We got this!
Driving... the twins to work early af on Saturday since they have lost their driving privileges currently. I was rewarded handsomely with the most incredible sunrise. And I did drive away feeling really proud of our hardworking boys, even if they do drive me crazy.
Tolerating... the absolute disaster Carly made of my kitchen while making Halloween art. She did some drawings and a lot of glitter art. Thankfully I don't mind sparkles & glitter, and I think that's just part of being a girl mom, amiright?
