Around Here: Week 32 2024

 {August 4-10th}

My little brother & his dog Watson. Aww!

August 8, 2003

Watching... Sweet P for my sister while she and the rest of the crew headed to Spokane for the weekend. It was so fun to have a baby around. What incredible entertainment. We all took turns loving on her and playing with her. She's the sweetest baby ever. Her mellow temperament reminds me of Wyatt. She is such a content baby. She loves to sit and draw (and can actually draw- at only 16 months), make the cars go, and knock down towers Wyatt built her. Carly enjoyed feeding her her bottle and swimming with her. I loved getting to put her down to sleep. I still got the touch!  The dogs also enjoyed having her around because baby/toddlers tend to throw and drop a LOT of food.  Haha! I think P's favorite part of the weekend was probably the fudgsicle I gave her after dinner one night. She was grubbing on that thing!

Grateful... our new fridge was delivered. And even thought it was a fiasco (they had doors of hinges and were moving furniture...) when all is said and done, we love it and we are so thankful for it!!!

Remembering... as I watch how much Carly loves Jack's friend Lilli the girls who were older than me that I looked up to and adored. It's such a rite of passage to think an older girl is absolutely the COOLEST. She made her a note this week with a picture of the two of them and the words "#newsissy" on the top of it. She's so cute.

Shocked... at just how effective our new dog vaccum from Amazon is. Here's the link. But let me tell you, it's incredible. The reduction of dog floofs all over the house is wild. I am so grateful Josh found it and ordered it. It's on sale right now for $129 and it's worth every penny!  The best part is that the dogs don't mind it AT ALL. And Piper is a giant baby scaredy-cat. So that's saying something!

Celebrating... our twenty-one year wedding anniversary with a dinner out at Rock Top where we ate fried pickles (yum!) and talked about how fast summer has gone and how we cannot believe our twins only have two years left. Then when we got home, Carly wanted to snuggle and ended up falling asleep on Josh's lap. That hasn't happened to him in years. It was so precious, we just let her sleep there until we were ready to go to bed.

Finding... joy all around me in little scenes.  Finding twin eggs while making my breakfast; spotting cute kittens fast asleep; laughing at twin brothers having tomato fights in my kitchen (truly I was only mad because they wasted a garden tomato and not a store bought tomato- haha!); American girl dolls all dressed up for winter on the kitchen table; siblings playing fun games together & laughing; sunsets; our dinnerplate hibiscus that made the move from our first house here and is growing (!); notes from Carly that always make me laugh and feel so loved by her; and finally, our yard. It's so beautiful and I feel really lucky to call it mine.

Hitting... both my goals everyday this week. I spent a lot of time outside and I spent a lot of time reading.  No regrets!

Proud... of Carly for being so brave at the dentist where they fixed her current cavity.  This is her third time in (which brings me a lot of shame as her mom) but every time, she just gets through it with flying colors. She's so fantastic and calm!

Reading... This Is How It Always Is for what I'm calling my Sisterhood Book club, which is a book club that Josh's sister; her wife; and his brothers' girlfriend and I created over the summer. This is our first book (my pick!) and I can't wait to discuss it!
