{October 17-23rd}
Working... in the yard to cut down my dahlias (I will dig up the tubers for storing and re-planting them next summer at the start of November). I also weeded the flowerbed with the help of the kids, while Josh and Jack put the winter cover on our pool. It feels good to have the yard ready for winter. Our goal is always to have it prepped before Halloween.
While we were weeding, Carly found a ladybug that she cared for, and it brought her such joy. She is so fun.
Learning... more about our extended family member's illness (that I mentioned last week) as we talked with doctors. The last seven days has made me so grateful for family and friends and for my extreme nerdiness as my notetaking during our meeting with the doctor proved very helpful. There may be a long road ahead, but I am feeling optimistic. My emotions are all over the place, but mostly I am currently in a place of gratitude.
Stress shopping... through my friend Brittany's Live sale of her jewelry. I was able to get so many pair of earrings for a great deal, and they are all gorgeous! Go check out her page.
Decorating... Halloween cupcakes with Wyatt & Carly, thanks to Aunt Julie. She dropped off the cutest cupcake set and we made cats and bats that were adorable and delicious.
Cracking up... as Carly says, videoing me building a magnetic tower, that she was "live streaming" the event. Where does she get this stuff?!
Finding... joy in small moments this week. Building towers with Carly; enjoying morning snuggles with her; pink sunsets; wavy mermaid hair the morning after braids; the colors on the fall trees; my new living room rug (and how much Grady loves it!); watching as leaves fall gently to the ground; opening fun mail from both my cousin Alix and my friend Brittany; looking back on baby pictures of Carly and little Wyatt; my "Breathe" mug, a gift from a friend years ago after Wyatt was hospitalized; peaceful drives through the autumn trees, so breathtaking and short-lived; Logan & Jack twinning on accident one day; brothers gaming; toys on the desk in my room; our family eating dinner together; work continuing to happen on our house; putting the elephant sticker Jack bought me on my water bottle (he saw it and thought of me, warmed my heart); smiling as I opened the cupboard to see Josh had found our favorite blue Molly McButter after weeks of searching for it; a surprise phone call from my high school bestie; and quiet moments when the kids are at school and the cats are asleep, a candle burning on the island, and that feeling of gratitude sweeps over me for this beautiful life.
Missing... my writing class this week as Wyatt was home sick. He needed me, and class will always be there next week. It felt good to snuggle with him in his bed as he watched his tablet with George and I read my book. When his asthma is acting up, I like to be near. I keep track of his coughing and the number of breaths per minute he is breathing.
Grateful... for the steroids, albuterol, nebulizer and experience I have that helps me get Wyatt through these hard times. Unfortunately, because of his asthma we had to cancel our pumpkin patch plans with cousins, but getting him well was the main focus. I spent some time looking back on the blog and gosh Wyatt was an adorable baby and I am so lucky to get to take care of him. Can you even?!?
Visiting... a small book store & cafe in a nearby town for the first time and feeling like I was home. We don't have a book store in town, and I have missed it so much. My friend Becky came with and we had the best lunch and the best time browsing. I bought two books. They Both Die At The End and Once There Were Wolves. I am so excited to read them.
Attending... Jack's football game with Josh, our other kiddos and my parents. My mom came with the cutest new hats for Carly and me, and I was glad I had them because it was cold! Carly was dancing all around in the bleachers and fell, and oh the collective gasp- all those pounding, worried hearts. Thankfully she was fine except for a bonk on the knee. I told her next time she's bringing a helmet. Hah!
While watching the game at one point I looked over and saw Josh holding Carly on his lap and thought, "He is so hot." I'm so lucky he's mine.
Listening... to a presentation about a school trip to Athens & Rome summer of 2023 that Jack is interested in. After watching the presentation, I'm interested too. Hah! We are discussing whether he thinks he can raise the funds to afford it. Exciting!!
Thankful... everyday for Carly's amazing teacher. Carly graduated ABC bootcamp this week and I am just so blown away with how much she has learned. Her upper and lower case letters, sounds, sound blends and even some sight words. She comes home from school everyday and plays school with her dolls or practices writing her letters with me or her dad on her whiteboard. I'm so proud of her.
