Hosting... Josh's family for rusty's on Sunday after the twins got off work. Josh's sister Julie and her wife Erica came early and started making them with Josh. Then Julie's son Isaac showed up, and Josh's brother Samuel and his fiance showed up. We had a great time, visiting, laughing and eating.
Ordering... my Book of the Month books. I can't wait to get this months!
Subbing... in one of my favorite kindergarten classes Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. And it made me remember why I fell in love with teaching. It made me excited for the day I have my own classroom. We had a new student since last time I subbed in there, and he speaks only Spanish. Thankfully I have Google Translate downloaded, so we could communicate that way if necessary. But mostly in kindergarten, he is able to just copy what everyone else is doing and stay on track that way. One little boy gave me an apple. Another day a little girl gave me a picture she had drawn of me. I am telling you, kindergarten is just the best.
Seeing... the doctor for my foot which has continued to hurt. My doctor thinks it's just a pulled muscle and said to give it a week. If it still hurts in a week, then I should let them know and he'll put in an order for an x-ray to make sure it isn't broken.
Ecstatic... that my new chairs came! I put the first two together to see how they are (I love them!) and left the rest to put together another day because I was so tired from working in kindergarten.
Grateful... again this week for my village who helps out with giving Carly rides when I work. It makes subbing so much easier and knowing Carly is well cared for gives me so much peace of mind.
Battling... once again for the twins to stay in class. They did it last week for their weekend plans to happen, but without anything they're working toward they are back to skipping. Groan.
Getting... a massage on Thursday morning and feeling so incredibly grateful for my massage therapist. She works so hard on my body and I walk away feeling 100x lighter.
Ordering... graduation caps & gowns for the twins to the tune of $180, which is an entire day of substitute teaching for me. I just hope that they make it to the finish line despite their constant desire to cut class.
Waking... up a half hour early everyday to do my JournalSPEAK practice. I am very tired, but I put on the Peace music playlist I created on Youtube Music and get to work. I am supposed to dig into three main areas: Childhood (repressed emotions); Daily life (stress); and Personality (unresolved trauma). Sometimes I listen for my inner child's voice. Other times I write about current stressors and see what comes up. I also try to think about fight, flight, freeze & fawn and how those are showing up now or in the past. I haven't finished Nicole Sach's book (Mind Your Body) which will help me understand even more how to dig into myself in my writing.
Enjoying... no school Friday for teacher LID day, except that Josh still had to work, which always makes me sad. But I tried to enjoy the day nonetheless. I spent some time outside reading and journaling (it was fall perfection!) and I hung out with Carly, which always makes me happy.
Jealous... of my dad who went to the coast to visit my grandma and got the most incredible sunset pic!
Walking... on a day that my foot wasn't hurting as much to try and reduce my stress level. I love being outside. I wish I was better at making myself get out there.
Training... our cat Maggie to be held. She doesn't love it (yet) but she tolerates it for a little while. I really just want a cat that is like a newborn baby that I can wear around the house. Is that too much to ask?! Haha
Embracing... fall and burning candles. Logan got me the most delicious maple pumpkin something or other candle from Bath & Body Works and it smells incredible! I always go into fall kicking or screaming, but then it starts getting darker and the leaves begin to change and I'm like, "ohhh, I see what you're doing," and I start to enjoy it.
Making... blueberry muffins from scratch with the gigantic blueberries I had in the freezer from my mom this summer. They turned out so good, we absolutely devoured them! (I just used my Betty Crocker cookbook recipe and added a streusel topping. So yum!)
Dog sitting... alongside Carly who was hired by our neighbors. She adores Rusty and running across the street to feed him is no big deal.
Attending... book club on Saturday morning where my friend Christi had the most beautiful spread of muffins and yogurt and fruit. I had desperately needed time with friends, and they were so supportive as I talked to them about my parenting struggles.
Dropping... Carly off at her friend Joslyn's birthday party. She enjoyed it so much- pumpkin painting and other crafts- and I picked her up three hours later.
Obsessed... with all the variety of dahlia flowers I ended up with this year. I love the pink & red ones that are each different from the next; the palest pink that's almost white and shimmery; the giant pink and yellow dahlias... but my favorite, hands down is the cafe au lait that I finally grew after four years of wanting one and never having it happen for me. They take my breath away and I LOVE them!
Pulling... inspiration from five of my favorite books that are totally dependable for good quotes on life and motherhood in particular. The Gift of An Ordinary Day; Sandwich; We All Want Impossible Things; What Kind of Woman; and Gifts From The Sea. What books do you turn to for inspiration or good quotes? I'd love to gather even more.
