Around Here: Week 50 2025

 {December 7th-13th, 2025}

Feeling... grateful when one of my teen boys reaches out for me to take care of them, asking for medicine, a backrub or any other caretaking task.  It's so rare these days that they need me in this way, I love when I have the opportunity to mom them in that way.

Screaming... when I stepped into the garage to fill the dogs' measuring cups for their food and saw a mouse jumping up and down in the dog food tote. It scared the crap out of me!! Haha! When the guys came back out with me (after I ran inside and slammed the door), the mouse was gone! Phew! (Note to self: replace the lid on the dog food every time!!!)

Loving... this week's elf shenanigans.  He hung our undies on the Christmas tree (a classic prank he's done since the beginning) and he hung snowflakes in our family room (which is my favorite!).

Making... cornbread muffins from scratch to go with our chili this week. They were so delicious!

Keeping... Logan home all week as he was sick as a dog.

Enjoying... the oatmeal scotchie cookies that Logan made this week while he was home. It was nice to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

Downloading... the Calm app to help combat my current sleeplessness with some meditations and breathing exercises.

Seeing... flooding in my grandma's hometown on the Oregon coast and feeling grateful her house is safe and she has everything she needs. It's hard being so far away!

Helping... Logan calculate his living expenses for the summer when he turns 18 and (maybe) moves out. I am so proud of him for being so responsible and trying to figure out what things are going to cost so he can go into it with a clear idea of what life will look like.

Checking... my three high schoolers' grades and putting the pressure on to get it together because after Christmas break, there is very little time left in the semester. It's so stressful!

Attempting... to bring down my nervous system. Trying to move about my life slowly and methodically, not in such a panic or such a rush.

Deciding... it's best for Jack to be home for the rest of the school year this year. So we emailed his teachers and thankfully they are all willing to work with us.  From here, we will see how how he does and contemplate signing him up for digital learning second semester.

Subbing... in kindergarten on Thursday & Friday this week and so grateful for the time in class. I love those kiddos and being in the school setting is just so good for my spirit.

Choosing... easy dinners for the nights when I work. It's hard to come home tired and overstimulated and make dinner for five hungry people, plus myself. So chicken wraps or lasagna or other less hands-on meals are best.

Driving... to Spokane with Josh on Thursday night to see Charlie Berens (the comedian) in person. Charlie was hilarious (I love him!) and it was so great to spend some one on one time with Josh. We stopped at Love's on the drive in and got hot dogs (haha!). It was very simple, but perfect. We so enjoyed each others' company. Josh is the best and surprised me with the tickets, and it ended up being the best night.

Trying... to choose a new therapist on Dr. on Demand since mine is leaving the platform. I am so bummed and trying to find a new one is super stressful! Especially since I have loved my other therapist so much. Wish me luck!!

Flooding in Rockaway Beach, Oregon
where my Grandma lives.

Thankfully Grandma lives up the hill a bit,
so she didn't have flooding at her house.

everything is softer and more beautiful."
