See The Good: I love the geese flying overhead!!! |
This made me think of my friend Tab @studergirl & her six babes |
Making... sourdough. It's just on repeat around here. I love making it because once I'm doing it, I enjoy the process. And Josh and Logan love it so much.
Doing... laundry and honestly just feeling really grateful for the machines I have (even though they're slow and I have to run the dryer at least twice for every load) and for the humans that live here whose laundry I get to do.
Teaching... Wyatt how to change his sheets. He was a quick study and I think now he'll be fully prepared to change them on his own.
Contemplating... why I was able to homeschool the twins but don't feel I would be capable of homeschooling Wyatt & Carly. I think it comes down to this: Wyatt and Carly are highly sensitive people. So if I got frustrated or was impatient with them, it would really hurt them, whereas Logan & Jack just took my frustration and it was motivation to try a little harder.
Dealing... with a very moody daughter. I don't know exactly what it was (I'm guessing it has something to do with needing more sleep & all the changes happening at her school that are out of her control), but Carly was completely tantruming (100% out of character) one evening and I decided to pull out all the stops. First I put her in water. One of the first lessons of parenthood is that water solves everything. Whether its a bath, or letting them play in it, water changes the temperature of the mood. Then I got her some fresh ice water to drink while she was in the tub, as well as a snack. Haha! I was leaving nothing up to chance.
Hallelujah, my plan worked, and she got out of her funk. Poor girl. Poor everyone- this change has been so hard on the teachers, staff, parents and students. It really stinks.

Taking... Carly to her new school drop off, which is a high school nearby from which she will be bused to her new elementary school location with all her classmates (the entire third grade). She did amazing at drop off and I am so proud of her.
Grateful... for the school staff- the principal, the EA's, the teachers... but especially Carly's teacher. She has been instrumental in keeping my stress level about the change down, and has encouraged us to talk to our kids and keep a positive perspective. I know it's working because Carly was so excited about her new playground and trying the bus for the first time.
Creating... a "See the good" series for March, simply because I need it, and it is making me feel so content and grateful. I highly recommend sharing one or two little things each day you're grateful for. It ends up making you look for those good things all day long, which feels really delightful.
Heading... to Jazzercise Monday after *almost* deciding not to go, and I am SO glad I did. I never regret going. Ever. The workout kicked my booty, but it was the best! I am so proud of showing up for myself. Especially when it's hard.
Loving... coming home from Jazzercise to Josh and the kids and dogs outside in the front yard. I am so happy that winter is over and spring is here and the sun is out longer and our plants are starting to wake up. I am here for it!
Devastated... by what is happening on the Gaza strip with them being bombed. I hate feeling so helpless.
Doing... homework with Wyatt, plotting things on the X and Y axes, and boy, am I out of my element. I nearly always have to google what we're trying to do, and half the time he ends up having to figure it out on his own. Sorry kid! Math was not my strong suit. But if you need help writing a paper, I'm your girl!
Subbing... at Carly's new school for one of our school's other third grade teachers on Wednesday and Thursday and it worked out just great. It was so good for me to see the other staff, meet the ladies in the office and just see what a day looks like for Carly. The new staff and students have been SO welcoming to our crew, despite our being dumped on them with hardly any notice. I am so, so grateful.
Reading... The Cartographers (my pick for book club this month) and The Gift of an Ordinary Day in bits and pieces. I plan to re-read the whole thing next year as our twins are seniors. I truly cannot believe we are already here.
Cracking... up when Carly and I were discussing if Josh drinks very much. I told her that Daddy doesn't really drink much. Maybe occasionally, but not super often. And she agreed with me, stating, "Yeah, he just sometimes has a Buzz Light." Hahaha! Of course she meant Bud Light, but it was too cute.
Taking... all four kids to a new eye doctor since our old one stopped taking our insurance (boo!). It actually went really smooth and we were able to get the appointments done and the eye glasses picked out in record time. While we were waiting, though, I was laughing so hard. The twins had been sitting in separate seats when a woman walked in and was going to need a place to sit. So Jack, being the gentleman that he is, stood up and went to join Logan on the *not quite* loveseat he was sitting on, so the lady could have his seat. The two of them smashed together on that teeny tiny loveseat was so hilarious and made me remember back to the time at Home Depot when they crawled into one of those igloo dog houses at 9 years old and almost got stuck inside together. Hahaha
Finding... that my hair is getting so long! It's to my bra strap in the back!!
Sending... Logan & Jack to the dentist independently. I wasn't sure if I could, but I had a sub job that day, so we gave it a go. They did great, and the dentist's office said the only thing was that I would need to call to schedule any follow ups. It was amazing. This new chapter of motherhood ain't all bad.
Picking... up my sister's toddler, Sweet P, for a weekend with us to give my sister a break and to soak up her sweetness. On the drive there, I thought my 42 year old eyes were deceiving me when I thought I saw what looked like a bandit on a black horse, but sure enough, as I got closer, that's exactly what it was. What the heck!?!
It was so good to see "the baby" as we all call her, and she was a little angel on the way home. Then at dinner, we were all shocked when she ate her broccoli and noodles. Such a good girl! The next morning, I swear it was like she lit up the whole house. Everyone at breakfast was talking in their best baby voices to her, saying good morning and offering her bits of their food. It made my heart so happy.

Helping... a friend of mine post-knee-surgery to lay her little one down (she can't carry her and use her crutches at the same time). I had assumed Sweet P would play, but she was quite shy while we were there. It was so nice to get to spend some time with my friend and get to know her even more since our time together is usually at book club, where our time is limited and often about the books we've read.
Rolling... my eyes as Carly rolls all over the house. This girl. I don't even know what to do with her. She is sooo obsessed with gymnastics, but can't yet to any cartwheels or walkovers or anything. So she does somersaults over and over (and over) to get around the house and it's honestly driving us all nuts. But I just roll my eyes and let her be because she loves it, and it's not hurting anyone. But it is making me a bit batty.
Baking... a cake and cupcakes for the birthday party we are hosting for my sister and Sweet P on Sunday. It was nice to get them done and I think they're going to be delicious!
Rotating... whose room the baby sleeps in each night so the kids all get a turn. First up was Carly, then Wyatt, then the twins. She did amazing all three nights, and I am so grateful my kids are such loving cousins and so flexible when I spring things on them.
Attending... gymnastics after school on Friday with Carly and Sweet P. I brought toys and snacks galore to keep her entertained, and she did great! The biggest hit were the homemade chocolate chip cookies, and let's just say I was glad we had wipes. Hah! Carly did amazing at gymnastics and I just love her passion for it, even if it does drive me nuts at home sometimes.
Happy... to drop Carly off to a classmates' birthday party on Saturday at the gym where she does gymnastics! She was overjoyed to get some free time to do whatever she wanted at the gym. It wore her out! Meanwhile, Wyatt was home hanging out; Jack had some car detail jobs; and later Logan had Elyssa over. A busy but good day.
